Biomethane connection activity has accelerated across UK and Ireland gas networks in May 2026. Gas Networks Ireland has agreed to connect Stream BioEnergy’s €80 million Cork facility. Northern Ireland’s Utility Regulator has set 27 May as the go-live date for revised biomethane licence modifications. Wales & West Utilities is expanding a network already supplying 21 biomethane sites. For gas suppliers and network operators, biomethane is no longer a policy theme.
Biomethane has moved from intent to construction across three markets
Ireland’s Cork facility will inject roughly 80 GWh of renewable gas a year once operational. Northern Ireland’s revised licences embed biomethane-specific provisions, including method statements, charging principles and calorific value management. Wales continues to add injection capacity alongside mains replacement investment.
Connection delivery is becoming a regulated field service programme
Each new biomethane site brings new asset records, method statement approvals, contractor coordination, certification evidence and producer commercial agreements. As volume grows, these connections shift from individual projects into a sustained workload requiring consistent planning, governance and reporting.
Where a connected operating model supports delivery
Sysco Software’s gas industry solution, built around Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform, can connect estimates, work orders, contractor access, asset records, tracksheets and certification evidence for biomethane connection activity. This gives delivery teams a single operational view from initial enquiry through to certified completion.
What gas businesses should review now
Leadership teams should assess whether current systems can support growing connection workflows, producer contract management, method statement approvals, asset onboarding and regulatory reporting. The earlier these requirements are designed into the operating platform, the easier it becomes to scale.
